A Wild and Precious Life

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

       –Mary Oliver, The Summer Day

When the question serves as both question and answermy one wild and precious life–one need only know that yes, life is both one(ce) and precious. This one and only earthly life; this one, rare and uniquely divine life–my life!

And yet, how then to live with this strange truth?

This unsolicited gift, this burden, this untested court? This unscripted play, this unfinished novel? How shall I make meaning? Discover, create and experience meaning?

To guard and carry with me the fragments of a collective history–my constructed her-story–pushing forward against the wind and into the future, a cape of solitude wrapped around me?
