A new line that will link the city’s east and west Vancouver neighborhoods is coming online, but it will cost about $10 million more than expected.
According to the Vancouver Sun, the new line will connect the old Port Lands line, which was built in the early 1900s and now serves a large portion of the city, with the new TransLink line.
It is expected to be complete in 2019.
The new line is expected replace the old line, and replace some of the existing TransLink service that’s currently in service.
The new line should increase TransLink’s capacity by about a third.
TransLink also says that the line will be able to provide faster internet speeds than before, and will provide better customer service.
The TransLink project is part of a larger $1.8 billion infrastructure investment plan that is being announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Trudeau is touting the project as a way to modernize Vancouver and make the city more attractive to new residents and tourists.
TransCanada says the project will create 5,000 new jobs and create an estimated $7 billion in economic activity over the next 25 years.
TransLink is working on the new project in partnership with the province of British Columbia.
According to TransLink, the construction and operation of the project is scheduled to begin in late 2019.
